Chinese Water Deer, Muntjac and Fallow Buck in Bedfordshire

The Chinese water deer is smaller than our native roe deer. Big black eyes, a thick soft coat and the male’s lack of antlers give’s this small buck a very feminine - nearly a cute cartoon-like - appearance. At least from a distance.... This teddy bear like animal possesses a pair of long fangs that makes its trophy seem to have come from a totally different - and much darker - world. A water deer is a must in every trophy collection - we have a great new district, which is also home to plenty of muntjacs!

  • First class district
  • Good, strong populations of both muntjac and Chinese water deer
  • Good chance of a medal winning trophy
  • English countryside with farmland, meadows, hedgerows, woods together with charming towns and narrow, winding roads

4 days from $1,395

The sprightly little muntjac was introduced to Woburn Abbey from India in the 19th Century.

In 1901 a number of animals were released into the wild from Woburn, and in the years following a “wild” population of animals established itself in a number of different counties in southern England.

We have an exclusive agreement with this district in the middle of England, and here you can find really good populations of muntjac and Chinese water deer. Muntjac keeps to dense vegetation such as Gramble scrub, rhododendron woods and the like, where it is easy to find cover. The muntjac is a very active animal, feeding on many different plants in different parts of the area.

The hunting is a mix of stalking and lying in wait, and a number of high seats have been placed strategically around the district. The chances of a medal winning trophy are good. The hunt can also be combined with hunting for fallow buck.

In the middle of England you will find typical English countryside with areas of farmland, meadows, hedgerows and woods, along with charming villages, narrow winding roads, large country houses and stately homes and very friendly and hospitable locals.
